| | | | | | About: | Yvonne Eccles (b.1983) has always been involved in music, studying clarinet, piano and singing throughout her childhood. Throughout her school years she toured extensively, and it was there that her love for music making really began. But it wasn’t until a few years later that she began to take composition seriously. This passion took her to the Guildhall School of music and Drama to study with Diana Burrell. A highlight of her time there was receiving a commission from the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music to write a piece for a small choir.
Since that time, Yvonne gained a BA (hons) degree with first class honours from the University of Bristol, where she studied composition with Geoff Poole. While studying there she won the University Chamber Orchestra Composition Competition with her piece Triple occurrence. Other notable opportunities included a commission from the Philharmonia Orchestra for their Music of Today project where she was commissioned to write a piece which to be performed alongside Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale. Her completed piece 'Kaleidoscope Revelation' was included in a workshop at the Royal College of Music, London, and later performed at the Watershed, Bristol. At the end of her time at the University of Bristol her piece, Multiple Monotony for 13 individual voices, was performed by the University Singers in a concert to mark the end of the musical season, conducted by Yvonne herself.
From Bristol, Yvonne went to study with John Casken at the University of Manchester and gained a MusM degree in Music Composition. A noteworthy experience at Manchester was the opportunity to have her piece ‘Creation’ performed and recorded by members of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Yvonne continues to write music and is keen to develop a unique, individual sound by surrounding herself with diverse influences. She has experience of teaching instrumental music in schools and currently teaches clarinet, piano, singing, music theory and music composition privately and at Blackburn School of Music. She has a strong teaching ethos rooted in the aim of producing well rounded, informed students by covering all aspects of music, from theory to aural, in her lessons.
